Traumatic Brain Injury - ?????
I have a 20 year old son who was thrown from a car almost 2 years ago. He remains minimally conscious, severly disabled, no speech, on feed tube. Has complete movement of 2 legs one arm and torso rotation. He is on SSI medicaid maintenance in a nursing home. I got him a tilt table 01/04 and they used it a few times in March, within 4 days he was moving his left arm and hand. I took a job in Houston and had to leave him in the Valley with his mother. They have not given him any major motion therapy and I feel this is the only way to reconnect him, by standing him up every day for as long as he can take it. They claim if I treat him, medicaid will cut support, so he remains "vegetative". My wife has the only word with medicaid because I was in the hospital with him in San Antonio when she signed him up locally in the valley and my signature was not included. I am his father and I have to go to court to get authority with SSI-medicaid, what the heck is going on with the system? I can't afford a lawyer and dug a big hole by staying with him for 4 months in the hospital, I lost a year of work with serious income. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks
