MARCO DE AMICI: academic curriculum

1978: laurea degree in Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Pavia.
1980-1992: scientific and teaching activities at the University of Milano (Faculty of Pharmacy, Institute of Medicinal Chemistry), at first as the holder of a fellowship (1980-83), then as an assistant professor.
1989: NATO fellowship at the Royal Danish School of Pharmacy, Copenhagen, where he worked in the resarch group coordinated by prof. Povl Krogsgaard-Larsen on the synthesis of GABA and Glutamate ligands.
1992-1995: associate professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Trieste (Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences).
1995-2008: back to the University of Milano in 1995, since the beginning of 2000 is professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Istituto di Chimica Farmaceutica e Tossicologica “Pietro Pratesi”. At present, he is responsible for the courses of Medicinal Chemistry II and Innovative Drugs (graduation in Farmacia).
The scientific activity of Marco De Amici is mailnly addressed to the development of the following research lines.
i) Structure-activity relationships of a) muscarinic ligands and muscarinic allosteric modulators, b) compounds selectively acting at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, c) beta-adrenergic ligands and d) analogs/homologues of glutamic acid with a reduced molecular flexibility.
ii) Use of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of nitrile oxides as a key step in the preparation of heterocyclic derivatives of interest to medicinal chemistry.
iii) Utilization of enzyme-catalyzed reactions in the synthesis of biologically active enantiopure chiral compounds.
He is coauthor of about one hundred publications.
The research group headed by Marco De Amici is composed by two assistant professors, two PhD students and from five to ten undergraduate students.
