Hard water is due to the formation of rain falling into the compounds of calcium and magnesium in the stone:
CaCO3 + CO2 + H2O -> Ca2+ + 2HCO3-
MgCO3го CaCO3 + 2CO2 + 2H2O -> Ca2+ + Mg2+ + 4 HCO3-
In addition, hard water can be divided into temporary and permanent hard water, after being boiled the temporary hard water can be turned into soft water:
2HCO3- -> CO2 + CO32- + H2O
CO32- + Ca2+ -> CaCO3 (s)
CO32- + Mg2+ -> MgCO3 (s)
Calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate can not be dissolved by water. Tea in the teapot is also the resulting scale and it is very difficult to clean. The potable water Hong Kong has supplied is already the soft water, so we do not have to use ion exchangers to deal with clean water or heating in iron, calcium and magnesia.

I am not science student. But I can understand only. Only tell about water.

Both hard water and soft water have their own benefits, where soft water being gentle on the skin helps prevents skin diseases while hard water with the mineral content can prevent heart diseases, lower blood pressure and better and stronger bones with the calcium intake. Generally hard water is known to be better recommended.
