I have been taking Effexor approx 3 yrs for depression and anger. I am 10times better on the medication than off. I can now enjoy a normal life with my family without screaming and hollering at my children. I never realized how big a problem my anger was until I had children. I have heard how hard it is to stop taking this medication. Is it safe to take this medication forever?

You could probably stay on Effexor for years if you wanted to esp. if it helps you so much. But if you do you have to consider that not everything is known about Effexor yet because it is a pretty "new" psychiatric drug and it's specific effects on the brain and body when taken over a long time are not known either. With any drug that changes your brain chemistry there are consequences both good and bad. I think the best thing would be just to stay on it if you want to until it stops working for you, which could happen. Then go from there but if your concerned about the effects I would say intensly research Effexor till there is nothing left to know. Maybe go to more Medical forums and stuff or just have a long sit down with your doctor.
Effexor is an effective medicine used to treat mental depression and anxiety disorders and to relieve their symptoms.
The dosage of Effexor varies from patient to patient depending on factors such as age, body weight and degree of mental depression and anxiety.
You may be advised by a doctor to observe a lower dosage of Effexor or you may be advised to entirely stop taking Effexor if you are well
